Description

Winterborn is an independent game studio that is working on Externus: Path of the Solari, a tactical roleplaying game featuring a world built from a homebrew tabletop game.

History

Winterborn was formed by Kent Gambill in January of 2019 to make a tactical role-playing game set in a world he created over 15 years ago. The studio was founded alongside Moudy Hamo, Jack Steele, Stephen Boilegh, and Trevor Osz to develop Externus: Path of the Solari.

Projects

Externus: Path of the Solari

Externus: Path of the Solari is a character-driven tactical roleplaying game (RPG) adapted from an original tabletop game. We take inspiration from classic tactical RPGs like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Shining Force along with modern game development to craft our own story and give you characters that matter. Our approach is designed to allow you to get to know the characters in your party along with strategic combat in full 3D battlefields. We encourage party interaction through our campfire scenes and storybook sequences that pay homage to the original tabletop game.

Our character-driven approach is inspired by games we grew up on that get to know the characters in your party.  We’re building Externus from scratch with our BroadSword Engine using MonoGame.
